Permian Oil & Gas Production Data – update through August 2016

Although the data shows a small drop in August, I’m quite sure that once revisions come in, we see a slowly rising oil production in the Permian, from horizontal wells.

Permian Oil & Gas Well Productivity- update through July 2016

a continuous improvement in average well productivity, since 2013. 2016 wells so far are on a cumulative level about twice that compared with the average 2013 well, by month 7 on production (80 vs 40 kbo). It will be very interesting to see how long these production rates can stay higher, compared with earlier wells.

Permian Oil & Gas Drilling Productivity- update until June 2016

The EIA reports a much larger amount of oil production from the Permian in its Drilling Productivity report, than I do here. The reason for this difference is that the EIA also counts production from a significant number of vertical wells there (many of which are fracked), while I only report horizontal wells. I only report these, to be able to make better apple-to-apple comparisons possible with horizontal well productivity in other basins.

Permian Oil & Gas Production – Update 2016-03

Permian total production has increased again slightly from the dip in December, and is higher than in 2015. I still expect some upward revision of production in recent months as is typical for Texas. The difference with the Eagle Ford, which has shown large drops in recent months, is striking.

Permian – update until 2016-01

oil production data from horizontal wells in the Permian (both New Mexico and Texas) until January. There appears a surprising large drop in production in December, followed by a relative large increase again in January. This appears for both New Mexico, and Texas. I can’t explain this variation, but these months are still subject to potential large future revisions.
