Get the Data (New data structure added! ND updated)

On this page the data underlying all my posts is made available for purchase.

There are 2 sections. The new data structure is presented first, while the previous, Excel based,  structure is described next.

======== New Data Structure ========

Now far more well, production, and completion data is offered here, for more than 80 thousand horizontal wells in the 10 US states that I currently cover. This data is organized into several database tables, and available in both MS Access and SQL Server database formats.

This structure has been created in order to analyze the performance of these wells in far more detail, and is especially suitable for analytical tools such as Tableau, Spotfire or Power BI. The following document describes this structure in detail, including what types of data are exactly available: ShaleProfile Database Description.

An Access database with sample data is also available for free. It contains horizontal well, production and completion data from 3 counties; Dimmit (TX), Williams (ND), and Bradford (PA). You can download it here: ShaleProfile Sample Database

The different purchasing options are shown below. You can download this overview to view it in a higher resolution.

Initially, only options 1 & 2 are available (US Basic & US Professional), and they are described below. By the first half of September, the other options (US Unlimited, and data for single states) will have been added as well.

Horizontal wells from the following states, counties, and periods are covered in these data files:

======== Excel Data Files ========

The following section describes the older data sets. These will be made unavailable from September onwards.

Oil, gas and water production data for individual horizontal wells is available for purchase.

It is offered in an Excel file, which is the same file that I use for the presentations shown on this website. This file can be imported directly into visualization tools such as Spotfire & Tableau.

If you’re interested in this, you can have a look at:

Once new production data is available, which for most states is once per month, the files here will be updated typically shortly after.
